Walk 4. Polberro & Cameron Estate

Walk distance 3.5 miles

Me and Evie really enjoyed this walk today as it took us along a lane we hadn’t walked before, so here goes……

We started the walk at West Polberro in St Agnes, along Trevaunance Road from the village then turn right as signposted towards West Polberro. Follow this road until you come to a path on the left taking you across the quarry.

Follow the path until it widens and then head left until you reach a wider track.

Again, turn left so you are walking towards the Beacon.

When you reach Beacon Drive, turn right and walk along the road until you reach a gate and a lane to the right that looks like a path to the sea.

Follow this path to the end then when you reach the large stone turn left.

At this point take the right hand path

At this point take the left hand path then cross the road and continue along the narrower path and onto the Cameron Estate. Keep walking along this path until you reach the road, turn left then almost immediately left back onto a track. Follow this path towards the Beacon.

At this point, follow the left hand path that takes you past a field on your right and towards a style. Follow the road to a gate and turn right back up towards Beacon Drive.

Upon reaching Beacon Drive, cross the road as if you are going to walk up the Beacon but take the lower path to the left of the National Trust sign. You will be walking across the bottom of the Beacon with the sea on your left.

When you reach Beacon Road turn left and walk until you reach the junction with Beacon Drive.

Cross and follow the lane with the cottages on your left. This will take you back towards the quarry.

Look out for this narrow track on your right as it will lead you back to West Polberro.

I hope you found your way back ok !

Proceed With Caution!!!!

At Piran Pets we are taking a very cautionary approach to the services we offer. So for now, we will be walking dogs from one household at a time – to protect our clients and keep others safe. We will continue to follow guidance as provided by the Government and Cornwall Council.

1. If you are shielding or self isolating

On collection, we will ask that you stay at least 2 metres away

We will bring our own lead that will be washed in soapy water after every use

We will walk your dog from your house (It will be an individual rather than a group walk though your dog will have me and Evie for company)

During the walk we will ensure we socially distance from others

On return, we will wipe your dog using anti viral spray and dog wipes

I have water and soap on board and will be cleaning my hands constantly

2. If you are a keyworker

All of the above outlined in number 1 applies, but in accordance with Cornwall Council Guidance, we will have to walk all keyworker dogs last

3. If you are not shielding or self isolating

As outlined in Option 1, though we can transport your dog to a safe walking area if this is preferable to walking from your home. If this is the case, that area of the van used by your dog will be cleaned between every use

4. If you have covid 19 symptoms

If you have covid 19 symptoms we will not be able to walk your dog until your period of self isolation has ended.

If you have any questions or concerns?

Please contact nicky@piranpets or telephone 07737843781

The virus has not gone away, your safety is our number 1 priority at all times.

Walk 3. Beacon towards Mingoose

Distance 2.7 miles (approx)

Starting at the Trelawny Road car park, take the lane located between the recycling station and the scout hut, walking past the garages on your right.

Turn right onto Polbreen Lane and then proceed onto Whitworth Close. At the end of Whitworth Close you will see a triangular piece of grass.

Follow the path behind the houses, turning left at the signpost towards ‘The Beacon via Cannonball Farm’. At the end of this path you join a wider track. Turn right and after a few hundred yards you will reach Cannonball Farm.

Cross at this point and continue upwards along the path, passing some houses on your left. The path then narrows before reaching an open green at the bottom of the Beacon. Walk across the top of this field and over the stoney style. Continue straight along the bottom path.

At this crossroads in the path turn left. Continue along this path, passing one path on the left hand side then taking the second turning left.

Follow this path until you reach a wider track, turn right at the bottom and you will come out on Beacon Drive. Turn left then almost immediately there is a public footpath on your right.

Follow this footpath to the next road, cross over then continue down along the track

Once you reach this point, turn right onto a narrow footpath

Follow the narrow footpath until it crosses a small stream, then turning right (you will be heading down towards Chapel Porth)

When you reach a fork in the path, turn left and follow this path up and around the outside of the field. There are cows in the field but it is fenced (though Evie had to stay on lead as she could get under fence).

Once you have walked around the field you will arrive at a steel gate, go this gate then walk across the top of the fields to the end and cross the style.

Cross the style and head left back towards the Beacon. There is a gate at the bottom of this track. Go through the gate and then after about 20 metres turn right and head along the track with houses on your left.

The track will bring you out onto a road. Turn left. When you reach the staggered crossroads, turn right and walk along Goonvrea Road. As it veers to the left there is a track on the left (opposite a bench). Take this track and it will lead you towards Cannonball Farm (though you don’t want to go that far)

Turn right immediately past this fence, and proceed along a narrow track behind the houses. At the end, turn right and it will bring you to the grass triangle. Then retrace your steps along Whitworth Close and Polbreen Lane and back to the car park.
